CAPA Corner: It’s Time for School…Again!

    Today, August 13, 2015, school begins for all of the Central public schools.  Yesterday, school began for Central Private School.  I’m sure for many of the Central area school children that summer vacation went by way too quickly.  It always did when I was in school.  I didn’t mind the first day of school because I got to see some of my friends that I hadn’t seen all summer.  But after the first day of school, I was counting down until our first day off.  However, there are some students who have been looking forward to returning to school for some time.  My own son, who attends Central High School, has been looking forward to returning to school.  I spoke with another parent of a Central High School student at our church, recently, and she said that her son has also been looking forward to returning to school.  Why?  Because her son and my son want to keep learning.  They have a hunger for knowledge and the teachers at Central High School have been feeding them well!  I’m sure the same can be said of the teachers at Central Private School.
    Is there something wrong with the desire of my son and the son of one my congregation members to return to school to learn?  Absolutely not!  These two young men have it more together than I did when I was in high school.  You see, I believe that God has wired us to learn about the world around us.  It’s good to know about the world we live in – what makes things go and run, what is our real history, and gaining all of the knowledge that will help us to live in the world to be productive and good citizens.
    There’s another way that God has wired us to learn.  For those, by God’s grace alone, who are trusting and following Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, God has re-wired us to have a hunger to know more and more about Him.  The primary way to know God better is to read, study, meditate, and hear God’s Word preached & taught on a regular basis.  Psalm 19: 7-8, says about God’s Word:  “The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul…making wise the simple…giving joy to the heart…giving light to the eyes.”  God’s Word gives us what we need to know for salvation and what we need to know in order to live lives that honor and glorify Him.
    God’s Word teaches us perfectly about God, if we will just dig into it and ask God’s Spirit to give us His understanding of His Word.  Learning about God never should take a summer break.  The school of God is always in session.  If you want to know more about this gracious, loving, merciful, holy, and just God, I encourage you to go to or to stay connected to a church in Central that teaches the Word of God, clearly & boldly.  By God’s grace, your hunger for knowing God will be satisfied by a knowledge that is out of this world!
