Brant Guerin PhotoB    Redemptorist 2015 Junior Brant Guerin, son of Stephen and Tavee Guerin, received first prize in the 7th Annual Northwestern State University Louisiana Folklife Center Essay Contest.  The contest was open to all Louisiana high school students.  This year’s writing prompt was “Louisiana Time Machine,” inviting students to explore the question of which Louisianian from past, present, or future they would want to spend an hour meeting.  Brant wrote his essay about “Pistol” Pete Maravich.
Dr. Rasmussen, who is the Essay Contest Co-Chair, Director of the Louisiana Folklife Center, and Associate Professor of English at NSU, said in a letter to Brant, “Your essay was selected for its exemplary merit from among many other fine essays by students all over the state, and was an immense pleasure to read.”
As a reward for his winning first place in the contest, Brant was invited to attend the 7th Annual Louisiana Studies Conference at Northwestern State University in September to read his essay to the attendees.  In addition, Brant won $150, plus a $200 per semester NSU scholarship with a value of up to $1,600 for four years.  Brant’s essay will be published in the Louisiana Folklife Journal, a peer reviewed academic journal.  Congratulations to Brant for this accomplishment!
