In Memoriam: Joseph Ellis, Jr.

By  |

Our father, Joseph Anthony Ellis, Jr., 84, went to his eternal peace on Saturday, June 20, 2015. He served and defended his country in the United States Air Force. He was a proud Class of 1948 graduate and supporter of the Catholic High School Bears. Joe was also an avid LSU football fan, attending at least one game every year for 68 years. He worked for 36 years with Allied Signal Corporation. Joe was a member of the St. Alphonsus Parish for 50+ years. He was a major part of the St. Alphonsus Athletic Club. He was known as "Mr. Joe" to so many through his years of umpiring and refereeing baseball, softball, and basketball and served on the CAYL Board for 40 years. In addition to his service to his church and community, he was one of the original members of St. Vincent de Paul and worked with the food bank for 30 years. If there was a need for a servant in his church or community, Mr. Joe was the first to volunteer. He was an example of what a true servant of God, family and community is. His absence will be felt by many.
Visitation was held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Greenwell Springs, LA, on Tuesday, June 23, from 9:30 a.m. until Mass at 11:30 a.m., officiated by Father Mike Moroney and Father Jeff Bayhi. Burial was at Resthaven Garden of Memories.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Edna Walker Ellis; children and their spouses, Mark Ellis, Sharon and Phil Milam, Eric and Bettina Ellis, and Dana and Roger Duvall; grandchildren, Misty Kudlas, Ashley Caldwell, Joey Milam, Alle Duvall, Tyler Duvall, Sara Ellis, Hollyn Ellis, Abby Ellis, and Brady Ellis; great-grandchildren, Jackson Stokes, Cooper Cullum, Brooklyn Kudlas, Spencer Milam, and Gracie Bradley; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Vincent de Paul at http://www.svdpbr.org.
