Joy Ride Leads to Double Arrest

Nicholas James Mote and Ashton Blaize Smith, both of Central, were arrested by EBR Sheriff’s Officers Monday for the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The two suspects claimed to be visiting friends on Will Avenue but were unable to find a ride home. With knowledge of where the spare key was located on a vehicle in the neighborhood, Mote and Smith took the vehicle without authorization and from before midnight until about 6:30 AM drove the car to locations in Baton Rouge and Watson.
The two accused finally abandoned the vehicle back in the same neighborhood from which it was taken. Smith and Mote were both transported to Parish Prison and booked.
