Legislative Update Presented at CCA Forum

    Central, LA – State Senator Bodi White and Representative Barry Ivey were guest speakers at the Central Community Alliance meeting on June 16 and provided a recap of the 2015 Legislative Session.  They announced that approximately $43.6 million dollars worth of state funds were appropriated for needs in the Central area.
    The list of appropriations includes:
1)  $330,000 towards construction of new fire stations for the Chaneyville Fire Department.
2)  $6.11 million towards the Hooper Rd extension project (Sullivan Rd to Hwy 16 in Watson).  These funds can be used to finish design plans and initial right-of-way acquisitions.
3)  $750,000 towards the Greenwell Springs Widening Study (Central Thruway to just north of Hooper Rd).
4)  $12.2 million towards the Hooper Road Widening and Sewer Improvements (Blackwater Bayou to Sullivan Rd).  These funds can be used to finish design plans; right-of-way acquisition; and initial construction.
5)  $18 million for the Sullivan Road Widening Project (Huntley Ave to Hooper Rd).  A few parcels of right-of-way remain to be purchased with the expected letting for construction planned before the end of the year.
6)  $2.57 million for the Hooper Road Sewer Improvements.  This involves new public sewer lines to be installed in conjunction with the road widening project.
7)  $1.1 million for continued improvements to the BREC Central Sports Park on Hooper Road.
8)  $1.9 million for construction of a new City of Central City Hall/Administration Building.
    They also announced an agreement between the State of Louisiana and the Central Community School System to transfer the old Greenwell Springs Hospital property to the Central Community School System.
