KM_C224e-20150610130210    While working the Central special assignment detail Tuesday, an EBRSO deputy arrested Donald Raymond Shirey, Jr.  The deputy was working near Wal Mart in Central when he got a call about a theft in progress at the store.  The accused, Donald Shirey, was seen taking a television from the store into the parking lot without payment.
The first EBRSO unit pulled up behind the accused in the parking lot and turned on his lights and siren, at which point Shirey drove away and through a red light at the intersection at Magnolia Bridge and Greenwell Springs.  The accused then drove to a nearby shopping center on Magnolia Bridge Road, speeding through the parking lot between buildings and gas pumps.  Shirey continued down Magnolia Bridge Road into Livingston Parish, where he threw a plastic bag out of his car window.  He then entered another parking lot, where he sped up to a Sonic, got out of his car, and got on the ground.
At this point, the deputy handcuffed Shirey and read him his rights.  The accused admitted to using heroin during the pursuit and to throwing the rest of the heroin out of the car window as he drove.  Shirey also stated that he left the television in the Wal Mart parking lot, intending not to return it to the store.
Upon searching Shirey’s vehicle, the deputy found drug paraphernalia within reach of the driver’s seat.  The complainant informed the deputy that Shirey had already been banned from all Wal Marts due to a previous incident in which he stole merchandise from the store.  While investigating the event, EBRSO also found five active warrants out for the accused.  Shirey was booked into EBR Parish Prison.  Charges against him include theft of goods, entering after being forbidden, aggravated flight from an officer, drug paraphernalia, aggravated damage to property, reckless operation of a vehicle, red light, driving across private property, littering, theft, simple burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, theft of goods, and aggravated obstruction of highway.  BRPD had also listed him as a fugitive.
