Sign Up Now for EBRPL Summer Reading Program

By  |

Did you know that regular contact with print materials like books, magazines and writing games helps young children get ready to read and helps raise reading scores for older children? Your East Baton Rouge Parish Library sponsors a FREE Summer Reading Program every summer that’s designed to be a convenient and fun way to encourage children to read. This year’s theme is Every Hero Has a Story, and we’re inviting children ages 0-11 to visit their local Library to enroll. So join the fun by signing up your child in the Summer Reading Program at any location of your East Baton Rouge Parish Library. Here’s what you need to know before getting started:
• Young children, including babies and students through age 11 can register at any Library location between May 26 and July 31.
• Younger children can be read to by a guardian or older child; older children can read for themselves. See the rule sheet for minimum requirements.
• Each child who completes the Summer Reading Program will receive a book bag with a free book and coupons from local businesses. The child will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate or school supply bag. Check with your local Library to see which they will have.
• We offer FREE entertainment and crafts, along with books, magazines, movies and recordings to check out.
• Children should visit the Library regularly, if possible.
• If you are planning a group visit to the Library, call the Children’s Room staff for suggested dates and times.
• Sign up and start reading!

Summer Reading isn’t just for kids!  Teens and adults can also sign up for the program through any EBR Library branch.  Reading logs will be available through the end of July.
