Central Address and Residency Identification Information
From the City of Central
The City of Central was incorporated in July 2005. The city limits are as follows:
• Comite River is the western boundary
• Amite River is the eastern boundary
• The junction of the Comite and Amite Rivers near U.S. 190 is the southern boundary
• The northern boundary is Hwy 64 according to the following: On the north side of Hwy 64, the city limits extend 1000 feet north of Hwy 64 starting 1000 feet east of Deer Creek Rd extending all the way to Liberty Rd. On the South side of Hwy 64, the city limits start at the Comite River.
• Sandy Creek to the north on Greenwell Springs Rd just past Liberty Rd.
It has been almost 10 years, and citizens are asking how to identify their residency due to conflicting U.S. Postal Service Zip Codes. People are still asking if they live in Greenwell Springs, Baton Rouge, Pride, Baker, or Zachary? The answer is simple: if you live within the boundaries above, you live in the officially incorporated city of CENTRAL.
Postal Service zip codes were established long before Central became a city. Zip codes are used by the Postal Service for mailing purposes only and do not correspond to city limits. These zip codes should not be confused with your official residency in the city of Central. Therefore, if you live on the northern part of Blackwater Rd, you may have a Zachary zip code, even though you live in Central. If you live in Bellingrath Estates, you may have a Greenwell Springs zip code, even though you live in Central.
To help clarify matters, in a letter dated April 6, 2010 from the Acting Manager of Delivery Operations of the U. S. Postal Service, permission was granted by the U. S. Postal Service for all addresses within the city limits of Central to use “Central, LA” as their delivery address along with their current zip code on all particles of mail. So instead of using “Greenwell Springs 70739”, residents in that zip code within the city limits can use “Central, LA 70739”. The same situation applies for the other four zip codes (70714, 70770, 70791, and 70818) within the city limits of Central.
The use of “Central, LA” with your current zip code can help resolve many of our identification issues, and we encourage you state that you live in CENTRAL.
