Janet Stevens Speaking at RWC Meeting
Submitted by RWC
Janet G. Stevens, PhD, will be the featured guest speaker for the Republican Women of Central's Membership Dinner being held on Monday, February 23, 2015 at Mike Anderson's Seafood in Central. A networking reception begins at 5:30 p.m. with meeting starting at 6:30 p.m.
Stevens was surprised at being chosen as an Outstanding Women of Achievement award recipient in November 2014 for her dedication to Central and students, being the second person hired for the Central Community School System, advancing to become Supervisor of Federal and State Programs and Professional Development, but also for being the founder and the driving force of the Central Community Alliance Foundation, better known as CCAF.
"Our Children ARE Central," is her motto. She lives it everyday, with gusto. Her ability to observe and understand the needs of children in crisis, without proper necessities such as uniforms, school supplies, and sometimes food and suitable living conditions gave her the drive to rally local ministers, business owners, teachers and volunteers to raise funds and provide for these students.
Stevens is humble and does not seek attention unless it is for some unmet need of a student in the school system and, many times, the needs of their parents to help find a temporary home, sometimes transportation, food or clothing. She keeps their needs confidential and has recruited a board of directors and volunteers who are able to meet the needs brought to their attention. It is her willingness to serve and adapt that is most endearing to those who support Stevens' efforts.
She grew up in north Louisiana, moving to Baton Rouge with her husband, Charles, to attend LSU. Stevens has worked in public school systems since her graduation from LSU as a teacher of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. She served as an Adjunct Professor at University of New Orleans’ Graduate School. Janet was the first Program Manager of the Distinguished Educator Program for the Louisiana Dept of Education and is very proud to be the second person hired in the Central Community School System – only after Supt. Mike Faulk.
She is the mother of two children, Kristen and Kyle. Kyle is a Pharmacist and Kristen owns the “House of Orleans” – a retail store at the Mall of Louisiana. She is happy to say Kristen and Kyle live in Central with "her three most beautiful grandkids."
RWC will also select delegates for the Louisiana Federation of Republican Women Biennial Convention being held in Alexandria on March 27-29. State officers will be elected.
Reservations are required for RWC members and guests no later than February 20th by email to [email protected]. Anyone interested in joining is invited to attend the meeting February 23, including dinner with choice of 4 entrees for $20 per person. Membership is open to all registered Republicans for $25-35 per year.
