CHS Girls’ Bowling Gets Redemption against Doves

By Coach Godley

Just a little over nine months ago the Central High Girls Bowling team had just been bounced out of the LHSAA State Playoffs in heart breaking fashion.  Even though they had completed the best season a Girls team had ever had at Central High, the loss stung because it came down to 5 pins against St Scholastica.  Just 5 pins prevented the Girls from moving onto the Final 4 and a shot at a State Championship.  On the good side, five of the starting six from last year’s team are back and the coaches didn’t have to motivate them too much for their first match of this season.  Why?  Well ironically their first match this past Wednesday (1-21-15) was against that same St Scholastica, who also returned most of their team from last year.

This time around was a different result as Central (1-0) delivered a knockout punch early and didn’t let up on the Doves (0-1).  Right off the bat, Game 1 would set the tone for the entire match.  The Wildcats would roll the 2nd highest game (at the time) in school history with a 957 to the Doves’ 832 and take a 7-1 lead.  Haley Young (Senior/Captain) had the high game of a 202 and Brittnee Robinson (Sophomore) chipped in with a 178.  Game 2 was much closer with the two teams splitting the points for a 4-4 tie and Central adding to their Total Pins lead with a 884 to the Doves’ 871.  Young once again led the team with a 181 and Sarah LeDuff (Junior) added a 170.  Going into the final game, Central found themselves in control of the match up 11-5 and up 138 pins overall.  That’s when Central really showed what this team could be capable of throughout this season.

In Game 3 the Wildcats put the finishing touches on the match with a new Girls school record for high game.  For the first time in school history the Wildcats would crack the 1000 barrier and shoot a 1001 to St Scholastica’s 869.  Central cruised to a 6-2 win in Game 3.  LeDuff led the charge this time with a 203, followed closely behind by surprising new comer Brianna McCauley’s (Sophomore) 198 and Young’s 182.  In the end, the Wildcats would win the match by the final score of 20-7 and 2842 to 2572 in Total Pins.  Central’s 2842 was another school record for highest series.  Overall, Central was led by Young with a 568 series, LeDuff with a 544, McCauley added a 474 and Robinson finished with a 449.  St Scholastica was led by Megan Bounds with a 186 game and 483 series.

Central begins their quest for back to back district titles when they open district play against rival Denham Springs (1-0) at All Star Lanes (3:15PM) on Monday (1-26-15).  The Yellow Jackets won easily on Wednesday and defeated Lee High (0-1).  Central vs Denham is always a fun one and this one shouldn’t be any different.
