In Memoriam: Iris Walker

WalkerObitB    A loving wife, mother, and Gran, Iris Elaine Shaffett Walker passed away on Monday, December 29, 2014 at the age of 86 at our Lady of the Lake Regional Hospital. She was a life-long resident of Central and a member of Zoar Baptist Church. Iris was a retired math teacher having taught for thirty-three years at Istrouma Junior High, Prescott Middle, and Central High School. She also received a special recognition at Zoar Baptist Church in appreciation of teaching Sunday school for over fifty years. Iris was a member of the Eastern Star. Iris never met a stranger. She was the kindest, friendliest, and most generous person you would ever meet. 
    She is survived by the love of her life, Graydon Walker, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage. She is also survived by her only child, David Walker and his wife, Jill Walker. Her pride and joy were her two grandchildren, Josh Walker and Anna Walker. Iris is also survived by a sister, Jackie Ancelet of Jennings, and a very special cousin, Ann Warren, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Levi Shaffett, mother Beulah Shaffett, and brother L.E. Shaffett. Pallbearers will be Craig Shaffett, Butch Hutchinson, Joseph Ard, Josh Walker, Keith Piner, Tim Watson, Dick Shaffett, and Bill Armstrong. 
    Visitation was held at Zoar Baptist Church in Central on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and continued on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., conducted by Brother Glen Miers. She was buried in the cemetery at Zoar Baptist Church. Many thanks for the wonderful care she received at Our Lady of the Lake and her long time physician, Roy Kadair. Special thanks to her caregiver, Robin Hoover. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
