Central Schools Maintain “A” Grade, Climb to No. 3 in State
High School Ranks #1 for Scores on End-of-Course Tests

The Central Community School System has once again earned an “A” grade from the Louisiana Department of Education, marking the third consecutive year that the district has received the state’s top rating.
Central Community Schools earned a District Performance Score of 108.2, up nearly seven points from last year’s overall score of 101.3, to rank No. 3 overall among public school districts in Louisiana.
The latest report marks the third year that the state department has awarded letter grades to the Central Community School System on their accountability measures. Central Community Schools has received an “A” rating each of those years. The district ranked No. 9 among the state’s public schools last year.
“We are very pleased with our continued growth and ability to push toward greater levels of excellence. We saw significant improvements across the board, at every grade level,” Superintendent Michael Faulk said. “With that said, we continue to identify areas where we can improve in order to advance student learning even more.”
“I want to thank our teachers, curriculum leaders, parents and students for working hard and adapting to changing state standards over the past few years. Our district’s unwavering success in this fluctuating environment is testament to your commitment to excellence.”
He noted that improvements at all the district’s schools contributed to its higher overall score.
Central Intermediate School maintained an “A” grade, improving its score from 101.0 to 106. Bellingrath Hills Elementary and Tanglewood Elementary do not participate in any state mandated tests due to the grade configurations on their campuses. Bellingrath Hills Elementary and Tanglewood Elementary are considered feeder schools to Central Intermediate School and receive the same score and letter grade as Central Intermediate School. Central Middle School also maintained an “A” grade, improving its score from 104.9 to 105.6.
Central High School scored a high “B” grade with a score of 97.37, up nearly three points from last year’s score of 94.9. The high school showed tremendous gains in its End-of-Course index, ranking No. 1 in the state for the percentage of students – 83 percent – scoring “Good” or “Excellent” on all End-of-Course tests. The high school also improved its average ACT score and the number of students graduating on time.
Faulk noted that Central’s state scores have improved each year since the district began receiving an accountability score in 2009.
