In Memoriam: Louis Earl Sigur, Jr.

    Louis Earl Sigur, Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his daughters on Sunday, June 1st 2014 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.c

    He was born August 2nd, 1924 in New Orleans, LA and a resident of Central.

    He graduated from St. Stanislaus High School in 1943. After graduation, Earl proudly served in the US Navy for three years in the South Pacific aboard the USS Gridley destroyer during WWII. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him, as family and friends will attest. 

    After the war he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Tulane University. He worked for 33 years as a sales and marketing representative for Eastman Kodak. A man of profound character and integrity, Earl lived out his Catholic teachings in his everyday life. He was a longtime member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. 

    Nicknamed "Earl the Pearl" by his children, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Earl is survived by his six daughters: Alicita Sigur Collins and her husband Craig of Houston, TX; Caroline Sigur LaBas and her husband Michael of Baton Rouge, LA; Margaret Mary Sigur of Houston, TX; Anne Sigur Lovell and her husband Paul of Baton Rouge, LA; Michele Sigur Boatwright and her husband John House of Corvallis, OR; and Jennifer Sigur Hinton and her husband Jason of Baton Rouge, LA.

    He was most proud of his ten grandchildren: Nicholas Craig Collins, Sarah Catherine Collins, Katelyn Adele Murphy, William Foster Murphy, Hunter James Lovell, Brennan Paul Lovell, Andrew Jerome Boatwright, Ashlyn Maria Boatwright, Briggs Nathan Hinton, and Stratton Lee Hinton.

    Earl was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Alicia Chisholm Sigur; his parents, Louis Earl Sigur and Noemie LeBourgeois Sigur; and a sister Marjorie Sigur Burwell.

    Visitation will be on Thursday, June 5th 2014 at 10 am until the funeral Mass at 12 noon, conducted by Father John Carville and Deacon Joe Scimeca at St. Thomas More Catholic Church 11441 Goodwood Blvd. Burial to follow immediately at Greenoaks Cemetery. 

    In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children's Hospital.

    Pallbearers will be Craig Collins, Michael LaBas, Paul Lovell, John House, Jason Hinton, Andrew Boatwright, Foster Murphy, and Nicholas Collins.

    Our family is donating the flag from the military burial to be flown at the Central Veteran's Memorial in his honor.

    The family wishes to thank Dr. Norman J. Deumite and Dr. David West as well as the entire staff on the eighth floor of Our Lady of the Lake Heart and Vascular Institute for the loving care and dignity they provided our father in his final days.
