Central High Welders Take Third in Competition

    The Central High welding team won 3rd place at the Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) Craft Competition on April 3, 2014. They competed against 26 other schools and 79 individual competitors. Each welder was required to weld a vertical and horizontal open butt v-groove. In addition to taking a written test, each weld had to be tested by x-ray. Six welders advanced to x-ray and all passed, one being a Central High welder.
    Michael Yarbrough took second place in individual and third in team competition out of 79 competitors. He is certified in plate, pipe, TIG, stainless, and inconel. He is a senior and  has been welding at Central High for 4 years. He won a grinder, welding gloves, and gift cards to Bass Pro and Home Depot. After graduation, he is planning on going to work for Turner Industries.
    Clayton Fletcher took third place in team competition out of 79 competitors. He is certified in plate, pipe, and TIG. He is a senior and has been welding at Central High for 4 years. He will be competing in the National Associated Builders & Contractors competition in Birmingham, AL, at the end of April.
    Brennan Borne took third place in team competition out of 79 competitors. He is certified in plate and pipe. He is now working on getting his TIG certification. He is a sophomore and has been welding at Central High for 2 years.
