An S-4 submarine was rammed and sunk off the coast of Massachusetts. The entire crew was trapped in an underwater prison house. Every effort was being made to rescue the men but all had failed. Near the end of the ordeal, a deep-sea diver who was himself doing everything within his power to save the crew thought he heard a tapping on the steel hull. He placed his helmet against the side and listened as the tapping spelled out in Morse Code the question, “Is…there…any…hope…?”
What hope is there for any of us?
As a personal witness, I have hope in the future blessings of God; a “confident expectation” as one writer puts the phrase. For a person who has a genuine faith in Jesus Christ as their Rescuer and Ruler in life, such a person can be confident that whatever the circumstances of either today or tomorrow – God is working for good! Admittedly, at times circumstances and conversations seem to betray that hope. But the nature of hope in God’s future blessings is not dependent on either of those. Hope in Christ Jesus is dependent on Him and Him alone.
Today there is hope! One can live with confident expectation of what tomorrow holds. And even if death itself seems to rule tomorrow – because of Jesus Christ’s defeat of death – there is hope for those who trust in Him!
