CHS Girl’s Bowling #2 in State Playoffs
Central High Girls Bowling (11-2) saw their season end abruptly Thursday (4-3-14) at AMF All Star Lanes – Kenner. In Round 4 of the LHSAA Bowling State Playoffs, #2 Central High would suffer a tough “break” and ultimately help derail their path to the Final Four of the playoffs and possibly a State Championship.
In Round 3, Central received a BYE due to being a #1 Seed and took on 5-seeded St Scholastica (13-3) in Round 4. The Wildcats took control of the match in Game 1 by jumping out to a 7-1 and 940-846 lead. Haley Young (Junior/Co-Captain) paced the Wildcats with a 224 and Sarah LeDuff (Sophomore/Co-Captain) added a 182. St Scholastica would gain some momentum and win a close Game 2 5-3 and 883-857 to close Central’s lead to 10-6 and 68 Total Pins. Young would once again lead the Wildcats with a 190.
Unfortunately in the 3rd Frame of Game 3, Central’s run towards a State Championship suffered a major setback. Freshman Brittnee Robinson would suffer a sprained wrist. In a very gutsy effort, Robinson finished Game 3 but there would be no inspiring comebacks in the cards for Central as their momentum from Game 1 quickly fizzled. With one of Central’s key bowlers injured, St Scholastica would take Game 3 6-2 and 853-780. After 3 games, Central and St Scholastica were tied 12-12 and the match would come down to Total Pins. Unfortunately the Doves found just enough pins to win 2582-2577 and win the match 15-12. Five pins is all that separated the Wildcats from appearing in their first Final Four. Young’s 181 once again led the Wildcats in Game 3.
Overall Central’s season as a team ended in the Elite 8 (the farthest a Central Girls Team has ever gone) and was led by Young’s 595 and LeDuff’s 529. The Girls’ season will continue this Saturday (4-12-14) at All Star Lanes – Baton Rouge (11am) with Young and LeDuff advancing to the State Finals (Round 5 & hopefully Round 6) through the Girls’ State Singles Championship. Each Wildcat will try to bring home Central’s 2nd Girls’ State Singles Championship. Come support Central’s Young and LeDuff this Saturday, admission is $5.
