CHS Cheerleaders Compete at Nationals
Submitted by Sharon Ball
For the first time in school history the Central High School Cheerleaders qualified and competed in the National High School Cheerleading Championship (NHSCC) the most prestigious cheerleading championship in the country. The NHSCC is held at the Walt Disney World® Resort in Orlando, Florida, and nationally televised on ESPN and ESPN2 starting March 22nd. Central Cheerleaders joined the 560 teams who qualified for this event from throughout the country.
The journey to the NHSCC is one that many high school cheerleaders can only dream about, but the girls from CHS not only made it a reality – they shined. In addition to being the school ambassadors for spirit at athletic events such as pep rallies, football games, and basketball games they spent many hours of practice on their own routines . They truly learned the meaning of being a part of a team, and the value of hard work. They left Baton Rouge on February 7 with the knowledge that very few first year teams make it past the preliminary rounds. Not only did this team reach their goals and make it to finals, they finished the competition in the top ten with a 9th place overall finish in the Medium Varsity Non-Tumbling Division. The team also qualified and competed in Game Day Divison, where they showcased traditional sideline cheer including tumbling, stunting, and leading the crowd. They were awarded 2nd place in the Large Varsity Gameday Division.
The CHS Cheerleaders would like to thank everyone who supported them on this journey!
