December Sales Tax Revenues Up from 2012

Sales tax revenues within the city of Central were up 7% in December 2013 compared to December 2012. Sales tax revenues, excluding motor vehicle sales taxes, within the city totaled $432,777.25 for the month of December 2013. For the current fiscal year starting July 1, 2013 through December 30, 2013, sales tax revenues are up 6.78% compared to the same period in 2012. Motor vehicle sales tax revenues are also up by 7.57%. This represents six straight months of sales tax increases for the city.
On a calendar year, sales tax revenues within the city of Central for 2013 increased by 2% when compared to 2012. The increase in sales taxes can be contributed to more citizens shopping locally as well as better reporting and auditing controls by the City-Parish, which collects sales taxes for all areas of the parish.
