Wildcat fans packed the stands at West Monroe last Friday, traveling four hours to watch #11 seed Central take down #6 West Monroe 14-0.
It was a hard-fought victory for the Wildcats. The Rebel defense nearly shut down Central’s running game, with Jake Myer being the only Wildcat to gain positive yards on the ground. Central turned to quarterback Jarrad Hayes and the receivers for much of the game, racking up 238 passing yards. Gary Triplett was a favorite target for the game with 106 yards and a touchdown. Joseph Pourciau, Terrell Chatman, and James Schopp added to the receiving yards for the Wildcats.
Central’s two scores came from a short run by Myer in the first quarter and a 47 yard pass to Triplett in the third, both of which would go unanswered by the Rebels. Kicker Greg Noel put up successful extra points after both touchdowns for the Wildcats.
Central’s defense had a stellar game, shutting out West Monroe and holding the Rebels to a total of only 104 yards on offense. The Wildcat defense also kept West Monroe to just five first downs and five completed passes, in addition to recovering a West Monroe fumble for a turnover.
Congratulations to the Regional Champion Wildcats, and good luck Friday against Covington!
