Dear City of Central,
On behalf of the Central High School Student Council, I would like to thank every one who participated in making “Trevor’s Wish” come true, both local business owners and residents. Words cannot express what a great job that Central did in making his wish a reality, and it was definitely a team effort by a “Community that Cares”. In the end, we raised over $16,500 to donate to the Baton Rouge Food Bank in Trevor’s name, which is equivalent to over 82,500 meals. We sold over 1,000 shirts in the Central Community, and every day we get an email from someone wanting to order a t-shirt. “Trevor’s Wish” has reached nationwide, as donations have come into the Baton Rouge Food Bank from 44 other states, and Trevor’s story has been featured on ABC World News, K-Love, and Huffington Post, just to name a few. All together because of “Trevor’s Wish”, the Baton Rouge Food Bank has collected over $64,000 in monetary donations and over 34,000 pounds of food. All because of one unselfish little boy. A boy who put others first in everything he did, and was by far the nicest, most vibrant 11 year old that I’ve ever met. It was such a pleasure knowing Trevor, but unfortunately he passed away on Wednesday, October 16th, after his 5 year battle with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer of the soft tissue. I was sitting in class Wednesday morning when I got the news, and it really hit me hard, along with the other Student Council Officers. The news of his death quickly spread throughout our school campus that day, and you could tell that people really had it on their mind a lot. I had the opportunity to visit Trevor in the hospital the Monday before he went to be with the Lord, and I’ll never forget it. Trevor not only impacted the Central High School Student Council…He impacted the whole city of Central, the state of Louisiana, and the rest of the country. As some of you remember reading, Trevor spent the Friday afternoon before he passed away in the Central High School gym at our pep rally. He was a surprise guest because everyone had really wanted to meet him. As Trevor and I walked out, we saw every person in that gym stand up and start screaming for him! It was a great experience, and you could tell that he had a great time. Trevor thanked Central High School for supporting his wish and paused for a couple of seconds after this to gather his thoughts. Out of nowhere, Trevor raised his fist up in the air and said “And Go Wildcats!” with the biggest smile on his face. WAFB was there for the pep rally, so the whole Baton Rouge area got to see Trevor and see what the City of Central accomplished for Trevor.
Special thanks to the following businesses and churches that donated money to help Trevor’s Wish come true: Baton Rouge Clerk of Court Building, Central Bible Church, Central Community Theatre, City of Central Republican Coalition, David’s Tiger Express, Cross Threads, DeAngelo’s, Demco, GM Cable Contractors, Greg Kennedy CPA, Jack Hood Jewelers, Keith’s Pro-Paint and Body, Lancaster House, Las Palmas Mexican Restaurant, Leader Properties Carwash, Leader Properties Mini Storage, Nagoya Sushi, North Point Family Health, Oak Point, Republican Women of Central, Sammy’s Grill, Smoothie King, The Church in Central, Tiger Plumbing, Ty Electric, Wayne Clark Realty, and Wayne’s Custom Motorsports. A special thanks goes to the Central High School Football Team and Coach Sid Edwards for purchasing over 200 shirts for the football team, coaches, and trainers. A couple of days before Trevor passed away, some of the LSU Football Players autographed a football for Trevor, so he was able to see this! If you would like to purchase a “Trevor’s Wish” T-shirt, please contact Ms. Donna Soniat at
[email protected] and she will give you all of the information.
Although Trevor has passed away, we know that he is in Heaven with Jesus, pain free. This is comforting to know, and we also know that he is looking down smiling on the City of Central, and rooting for his Wildcats! In an interview with WBRZ a few months ago, Trevor stated, “You can make a difference every day…All little things count”. When you look at Trevor’s life, he definitely justified the quote “It’s not the quantity of your life, but rather the quality of it”. Trevor was only here with us for 11 years, but he made the most of that time, and impacted tens of thousands of people. Seeing Trevor’s love for Jesus and everyone else should be an inspiration to the City of Central to always put others first. Although Central has lost a legend, Trevor Sims will always be remembered and remain in our hearts.
Sincerely,
Ashton Kennedy and the CHS Student Council
