Long-time Neighbors Federal Credit Union Board Member Graydon Walker has officially retired from credit union service.  His extraordinary 54-year career as a volunteer has certainly had a positive impact on the success and growth of this $616 million credit union.  Mr. Walker’s service to the credit union industry has been recognized on a number of occasions, including being named Director of the Year in 2000 at the Annual Director’s Conference in Las Vegas.  Most recently, he was inducted into the Louisiana Credit Union Hall of Fame at the 2013 Louisiana Credit Union League Annual Convention.
Mr. Walker was a teacher at Prescott Junior High School before he was recruited by the School Board Office at the age of 25 to take over the parish’s mathematics program later becoming an Associate Superintendent.  After 38 years in the school system, he retired only long enough to become the Superintendent for the East Feliciana Parish School System.  Mr. Walker has also served as Baton Rouge’s Chief Administrative Officer, the Administrator for Zoar Baptist Church, and continues to serve on Central’s Planning and Zoning Commission.
In 1959, Mr. Walker became a member of the Board of Directors and served on the Credit Committee of what was then Baton Rouge Teachers FCU, serving the employees of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.  During his 47 years as Board Chairman, he was integral to advancing the business objectives of growing the credit union, and was instrumental in the transition to a community charter.  For his invaluable knowledge and experience and continuing contributions to the organization, Neighbors Federal Credit Union is proud to award him the distinction of being named the credit union’s Director Emeritus.
