Fifteen year old Louis Wittenburg, a student at Central Private School, traveled to Europe for three weeks this summer with the People to People Student Ambassador program to experience and learn about other cultures.  Louis’ parents, Kermit and Marcia Wittenburg, had Louis work around the house to earn some of the money to pay for the program.  Louis said seeing the trebuchet at Warwick castle was his favorite part of the trip “because how many times in a lifetime do you get to see the world’s largest working flaming trebuchet?”
Louis plays soccer with the Baton Rouge Soccer Association in the Fall and the Spring and plays soccer for his school over the winter.  He is a member of Troop 13 off of Blackwater with the Boy Scouts of America. Louis currently holds the rank of Life scout and is trying to earn his Eagle rank.  He is planning on submitting his eagle project to his school.  They currently don’t have a raised platform for the handicapped or the elderly at the football field, so he would like to build one.   Louis spends a lot of time reading books, especially science fiction and fantasy.  He also likes to go watch movies with his friends and play video games.
Sixteen year old Katarina Frank, a student at Redemptorist High School, went on the People to People Student Ambassador program with Louis.  To raise money to help her parents, Eric and Alice Frank, pay for the program, Katarina did some babysitting and tutoring.  She also made and sold tile coasters and emijays (ponytail holders).
Katarina said “This trip was so amazing that it is really hard to pick out my favorite parts, but if I had to choose, l would say that I really enjoyed learning how to do Irish dancing, rapelling in Wales, feeding a lamb in Scotland, walking across a rope bridge in Ireland, learning how to sword fight in England, and getting to see the beautiful landscapes of all the countries.  I also enjoyed learning about the cultures of the different countries.”
Katarina dances at The Coda and is a two year member of the Redemptorist Wolfettes dance team.  She has been dancing for nine years.  Katarina also

enjoys spending time with her friends and traveling.
People to People is a program started in 1956 by President Dwight Eisenhower as a way to promote peace through understanding by learning about other cultures.  The Baton Rouge high school delegation left on June 5th and returned on June 23rd.  They traveled to Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and England.
