2018 Central Elections Moved to Fall

By  |

In 2018 Central's elections for Mayor, Council and Chief of Police will be held in the Fall rather than the Spring.  This six month delay was proposed by Council Member Aaron Moak in order to save the city $30,000 or more in election expenses.  The cost of a stand-alone election, which Central can have in the spring, is approximately $40,000. Scheduling the election on the same date as State, Federal and School Board elections will likely reduce that expense to $10,000 or less.  This does mean that city officials elected in 2014 will serve an additional six months at the end of the normal four year term, with newly elected officials taking office January 1, 2019.  This does not affect the terms of Central's current elected officials.
