Central Thruway Ribbon Cutting Next Thursday

By  |
The Central Thruway’s two bridges will be named after long-time advocate Joe Greco and his deceased wife Joan Greco who died of ovarian cancer June 21, 2007.  Considered to be the father of the Central Thruway, Joe Greco had worked on the project for about 20 years while Joan worked tirelessly behind the scenes to also make the project a reality.  At Thursday’s ribbon cutting, one of the 2,000 foot bridges will be named after Joan Greco and the second one will be named after Joe Greco, longtime owner of Greco Pet & Veterinary Supplies.
The 3.1 mile four-lane expressway runs from Sullivan Road to Florida Boulevard.  Greco said the thruway will be especially important during heavy rains, when Greenwell Springs Road floods and forces Central residents to drive some 25 miles out of their way to get to Baton Rouge.
The official ribbon cutting will be held next Thursday, July 11 at 10AM.
