Sewer Problems in Morgan Place

By  |

Two and a half years after EBR upgraded one sewer lift station in Morgan Place but failed to upgrade the other one, raw sewage regularly flows into yards, ditches and streets during and after heavy rains.  Residents say that they are then unable to flush toilets for up to 8 hours.  After these incidents residents are left with what appears to be dried toilet paper and sewage in the affected yards and ditches.
The sewer systems in Central are the responsibility of the EBR city-parish government and not the City of Central.  EBR DPW director David Guillory admitted to TV news reporters that the city-parish failed to properly plan the improvement of the lift stations.  Guillory stated that they have ordered temporary pumps to help solve the problem, but that they will not arrive for two months.  A permanent upgrade is reportedly scheduled to occur to fix the issue, but that is not scheduled for another 18 months.
