Project Walk: Get Involved for Coach J.R.!

By  |

CHS Head Football Coach Sid Edwards has taken on a huge project and is asking for the help of the Central community.  J.R. Owens, a Wildcat Football assistant coach, was in an accident in 2006 that left him paralyzed from the shoulders down.  Wheelchair bound, but on the sidelines every week, J.R. is an inspiration to the team and a counselor and role model for many of the young men involved in CHS Football.
Project Walk is an intensive program of cutting edge physical therapy that has improved the lives of many traumatic injury patients and even has some patients walking when no one thought it possible.  The program begins with a 6 to 8 week stay at one of Project Walk’s facilities, but this is a $50,000 process that is not covered by insurance.
J.R. is a resident of Pride and a former high school linebacker and has five brothers and sisters.  His mother is a police officer who works much overtime to provide for J.R.’s care and medical bills.  Watch for opportunities to participate in this worthwhile fund-raising effort or consider making a direct donation.  An account has been established at www.HelpHopeLive.org and you can donate on line or by check made out to Help Hope Live with the name JR Owens in the comment line.  To get involved call Coach Sid at 287-6307.
