Inner Wheel Hosts Attic Trash and Treasure Sale

By  |

On Monday, February 4, 2013 some of the Inner Wheel Club of Baton Rouge and this year’s charities members met at the new site for the Attic Trash and Treasure Sale.  In the past the sale has been held at the old Mervyn’s at Cortana, but this year it will be held at the old Wal-Mart 14740 Plank Road in Baker.  The dates for the sale are Friday, March 8th through Sunday, March 10th. Donations can be dropped off at the site from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday- Saturday until March 1st.  The proceeds from this year’s sale will go to Brave Heart Children in Need, Inc., St.. Vincent de Paul; Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center; Families Helping Families; The Hospice of Baton Rouge; The JL Foundation; LA Resource Center for Educators; THRIVE and BR Young Leaders Academy of BR, Inc.

Pictured left to right seated:  Lucille Cox, St. Vincent de Paul; and Kathleen Howell; standing Beverly Turner, president of Inner Wheel; Karen Zobrist; Linda Montagnino, executive director of Brave Heart.  Picture taken by Kaye Carroll.

The background of the picture is an empty building, it has since been filled with items from 22 storage units.  We have furniture, collectables, clothing for the whole family, jewelry, books, holiday items, etc.  Last year’s sale raised $173,000 for the charities.  This year we are accepting credit cards and would like to top that amount!!

Brave Heart Children in Need works with the Department of Children and Family Services providing backpacks to the children entering foster care   We serve 38 parishes, in the state.  Brave Heart also provides Christmas gift bags to children in foster care.  Last year we prepared 4000 gift bags, wrapping each of the 4-6 gifts placed in the bags, meaning we wrapped over 20,000 gifts.

Thank you for your help,

Linda Montagnino
