CAPA Corner: Love One Another

By  |

I find it very interesting when a lawyer asks Jesus the question, “Master, which is the great commandment in the law?”  Jesus tells him, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God  with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” But Jesus doesn’t stop there. He tells the lawyer this is the first and great commandment and then tells him the second great commandment, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”
Why does Jesus give him the second one also when all he asked for was the first commandment?  This is important to know: if we cannot fulfill the second greatest commandment, to love one another, we can never fulfill the first, to love God. Scripture tells us in 1 John 4:20, “If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.”
The evidence that we love God is manifested by the love we have for one another.  In fact, the whole law of God is summed up in these two commandments, “On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets”.   Everything we could possibly learn from the law and the prophets is fulfilled in the love we have for God and man.  Prove to God you love him by loving those that are hard to love.  “For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? For sinners also love those that love them.”
God would not tell us to do something he wouldn’t do himself.  For he showed us the greatest love ever known to man before we ever loved him.  “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”  If you want to experience true love in your life; seek for it first in a relationship with Christ Jesus our Lord.  Having that relationship will give us the power to love those that are hardest to love. This love will let all men know that we are his disciples.  My love be with you all in Christ Jesus.
