In Memoriam: Beverly Harrington

On January 19, 2013 Beverly Ann Harrington, 76, passed away at her home surrounded by her family.
Although she was affectionately known as “Mrs. Bev” “Aunt Bev” or simply “Mom” or “Maw Maw” to all who had the great fortune to know her, she was born Beverly Ann Williams to Pearl and Reggie Williams on September 3, 1936. One of eight children, she would come to be the matriarch of her own large and extended family.
At fifteen she met the love of her life, Bobby Gene Harrington, they married in 1953 and she was soon whisked off to California and then to the island of Guam. Though she only gave birth to four daughters, she became mother to many more children, raising nieces and nephews and later, stepping in to help with grandchildren and great grandchildren. If you needed her, she was always there.
An excellent cook, her near perfect seafood gumbo and heavenly fried okra will be greatly missed, as well as her gift for knowing the perfect ratio of sugar, water and tea, and her uncanny ability to always burn the bread. And who could forget her famous muscadine jelly, always passing out jars to anyone who stopped by and wanted some.
A woman of deep love and many talents, sewing, painting, making dolls, she always had her hands working on a craft. Beverly was also an avid gardener and a gifted artist, her hibiscus plants, both real and painted, could take your breath away. Her friends and loved ones will cherish the magnolia flowers that decorate the walls of so many of their homes. You knew you were special if she painted one for you. It is a great comfort to know that she is now a shining angel, painting on God’s canvas.
Beverly is survived by two sisters, Joyce and Glenda, her beloved husband, Bobby, her four daughters, Vickie Smith, Elizabeth Robertson, Renee Harrington and Shannon Kennedy, as well as her nephew who was more like her son, Mike Crouch. No words can express their depth of loss, or that of the nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren she leaves behind.
Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home 9995 Hooper Rd. Central, Louisiana on Thursday January 24th from 5 to 7 pm with a memorial service at 7 pm. Because of her great love of children and her caring spirit, the family requests that any donations be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital or another worthy charity.
