CHS Bowling Hangs Tough against Catholic
Submitted by Coach Godley
In the final scrimmage before the high bowling season kicks off with jamborees all around Baton Rouge on Wednesday and Thursday, Catholic defeated Central 17-10. One major reason for the defeat was the fact that Central bowled out numbered due to a minor injury to last year’s anchor, Jacob Garretson (Sophomore).
Game 1 was dominated by the Bears as they swept all the points to take an 8-0 lead (938-706 Total Pins). Last year’s 5A MVP, Curtis Westmoland of Catholic, led all bowlers with a 199. Central’s lone bright spot was from Jonathan Ryder (Freshman) with a 164. Game 2 went a little better for Central but the defending District-5A Champions proved to be too much without a complete lineup. Catholic would take Game 2 5-3 (889-712 Total Pins) and was once again led by Westmoland with a 257.
With the scrimmage all but over and the Bears up 13-3, Catholic would remove Westmoland from their lineup and that’s when Central showed what they could do. Central would sweep all possible points from Catholic and win Game 3 7-1 (853-735 Total Pins). The last game’s high game was from Sean Murphy (Junior) with a 202, followed by Bryan Waites (Senior & Captain) with a 201 and a 194 from Kevin Kennedy (Junior).
Central overall was led by both Waites and Murphy with a 496 series and followed closely behind by Kennedy’s 494. With about one week left until the bowling season officially begins, Central will have one last tune-up and try to build some important momentum for the regular season, and participate in a Jamboree on Wednesday (1-16-13) at All Star Lanes (3:15PM) against Holden, Tara and Denham High.
