Central High bowled a very competitive match against St Michael’s High School at All Star Lanes on Thursday (1-10-13) afternoon, but came up a little short in the scrimmage losing 10-17.  With high hopes for the 2013 season, this was a good way for the Wildcats to get the season rolling.  St Michael’s is the 2012 State Runners-Up, are returning all but one member of last year’s starting team and added arguably the best junior bowler in the Baton Rouge area, Greg Snee.  Even with all that fire power, Central still impressed many on hand by hanging around in the match.
The first game was dominated by the Wildcats who jumped out to a 6-2 lead (1003-983 Total Pins).  Central was led by Bryan Waites (Senior & Captain) with a 224 and Jacob Garretson (Sophomore) rolled a 198.  St Michael’s Anthony Russo answered with a 234 of his own.  Unfortunately for Central, in Game 2 St Michael’s showed why they have been a Baton Rouge powerhouse for years and are one of this year’s favorites to win the state title.  St Michael’s would sweep all the points in Game 2 (8-0) and steamroll Central in Total Pins (994-791) to take the lead in the match, 10-6.  Russo would once again lead his team with a 214 and was followed by Angela Falgoust with a 193.
Central tried to rally in Game 3 but could only split the points (4-4) in the final game.  Central shot their highest series of the day with a 1058 to St Michael’s 995, but it was a little too late.  Central’s captain once again led the way with Waites shooting a 223, followed by Sean Murphy (Junior) with a 209 and Garretson’s 187.  St Michael’s talented line-up was even better with Russo’s 227, then Snee’s 215 and Falgoust’s 211.
Overall Central lost the scrimmage 10-17 (2972-2852 Total Pins), but showed a ton promise.  This might very well be the year Central captures that elusive District Title and a State Final Four showing they have been trying to achieve the past couple years.  Central overall was led by Waites with a 583 series (224 game), then Garretson’s 528 (198) and Murphy’s 502 (209).  St Michael’s was lead by Russo’s 675 (234), Falgoust’s 585 (211) and Snee’s 552 (215).
Central’s next scrimmage is Monday (1-14-13) at Circle Bowl (3:15PM) against rival and 2012 District 5A Champion Catholic High.  After that, Central will participate in a Jamboree on Wednesday (1-16-13) at All Star Lanes (3:15PM) against Holden High School and (if victorious) the winner of Tara High/Denham High match.
