‘Tis the Season

    The administration at Galilee Baptist Academy would like to thank the families and community businesses who partnered with GBA to reach out to families in need this Christmas season.  We would like to thank LeBlanc’s groceries for donating a $25.00 gift card, Oak Point for donating turkeys, and families and staff at GBA for donating side items and turkeys.  As a result of your kindness, we are able to bless 13 families with complete Christmas meals. 

    During the Christmas season, all classes at GBA adopt an outreach for a cause toward something they are compassionate about.   This annual Christmas project of giving began last school year under the direction of the academy’s new principal, Despo Wells. 

    “All of the projects have been very successful, and as a principal it is exciting to see whom our students chose to pass on the love of Christ and show the true reason for the Christmas season.  I truly believe that our students have grasped the concept that it is not about receiving, but giving.”  

    Below are testimonies from some of our teachers.

The fourth graders have been very excited to help Hallie Overfield and the Overfield family with medical expenses.  Hallie was diagnosed with lymphoma in November 2011.  We decided to have a “Walk for Hallie.”  The children collected donations from friends and family and walked laps in the Galilee gym.  All proceeds were given to the Overfield family.  We have been blessed to be able to bless this precious young woman and her family.    -Mrs. Cheryl Law

It isn't what you have to give, but how you give of yourself that matters most.

    This Christmas season the Kindergarten teachers at GBA wanted the students to experience the joy of blessing others and making others feel appreciated. For weeks, the children painted, cut and glued to create beautiful Christmas cards and also collected dozens and dozens of candy canes. Small groups of students were taken to the Zachary Fire Department, Zachary Nursing Home, Central Sheriff Sub Station, Whitney Bank, Pat's Home Center, the Central Post Office, Central School Board Office and City Hall. They sang "Go Tell It On The Mountain" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" and passed out the hand-made cards and the candy canes to the employees who help make Central and Zachary a safe and wonderful place to call home. The excitement they felt at brightening someone's day and sharing the true meaning of the season was evident on their sweet little faces. When one student was asked to describe her favorite thing about the trip, she replied, "I liked that we made those people feel like they mattered to us and that they were important in our lives.
