For Central Schools Superintendent Mike Faulk, the safety of Central’s children is top priority. For Central resident and retired police Captain Kerry Clark, Active Shooter Emergency Response is a passion and a career. For Dave Freneaux of Central Speaks, knowing these two men and having the opportunity to bring them together for the good of Central is a privilege.
Kerry Clark retired with 30 years of service in the Baton Rouge Police Department and now spends his time as a nationally recognized consultant. He trains police departments across the country in how to prepare for and respond to active shooter emergencies such as the tragedy in Connecticut last week. Tuesday, Mr. Clark volunteered his services to the Central community to help ensure the safety and security of Central’s schools.
Superintendent Faulk has embraced this offer and the two men are moving forward with plans to evaluate, plan and implement training to increase the security of Central’s school campuses. According to Superintendent Faulk there are many safeguards already in place and the school system is working daily to improve safety. He adds that the employees of the Central School System are expert educators and not safety professionals. Faulk points out that Mr. Clark is an expert in safety and that his expertise is both needed and welcomed in Central.
In a meeting on Tuesday the two began to lay the foundation for a comprehensive plan to elevate the level of safety in Central’s Schools so that our students may have not only the best education in Louisiana, but the safest as well. This process is expected to begin immediately after the holidays, beginning with walk-throughs of all school facilities to assess needs and will involve awareness and training throughout the school system. A Central resident offering his time and talents, and a Superintendent with the vision to see the need to embrace that offer…THAT is Good News for a Great City.
