CIS Holds Jr Beta Induction

     Central Intermediate School, under the direction of Rhonda Taylor, principal, held its Jr. Beta Club induction ceremony Thursday evening, November 29, 2012.  Ninety-two fifth grade students were officially inducted into the National Jr. Beta Club. The National Honorary Beta Club is an organization instituted for promotion of creditable student effort and achievement and seeks to cultivate the ideals of service and leadership in our citizens of tomorrow. 

     Following the initial welcome by Mrs. Taylor, Rylee Haney, a student in Mrs. Ellis’s home room, greeted the faculty, parents, and guests, thanking them for taking part in this memorable occasion.  Ethan Overhultz from Mrs. Hausse’s class and Julia Bergeron from Mrs. Tucker’s homeroom led in the pledge to the American flag and prayer respectively. Students were then inspired by Stephen Hudson, a Senior and Beta member from Central High, to keep up their grades so they can remain in Beta throughout their years in Central schools.  “I’ve never seen this many students in the same class being inducted into Beta,” Stephen told the inductees.

      Joliet Shuff and Carolynn Waller, both in Mrs. Hill’s home room, surprised the guests by singing “Last Christmas” by George Michael.  Just prior to the formal induction of the 2012-2013 CIS Jr. Beta Club members, Camille Dean, Graci Stevens, and Devin Martin, all in Mrs. Macaluso’s home room, challenged their peers with a speech on “Student Leadership” that the three students wrote themselves.  Mr. Jeremy O’Banion, Assistant Principal of CIS, then led the inductees in reciting the Jr. Beta pledge.  All inductees were issued certificates and a pin from the National Beta Club.  Special thanks to Julie Stevens, Assistant Principal at CIS, for helping us order and set up our certificates and to fifth grade teachers who served cake for our reception following the ceremony.  Congratulations to the new Central Intermediate School Jr. Beta Inductees!
