Speed Suspected in Denham Springs Crash that Kills Unrestrained Teen

Denham Springs – This morning shortly after 7:00 am, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA 1032 south of Vincent Rd. in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 18 year old Denham Springs resident Brice J. Harris.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Harris was driving a 2003 Ford F-250 north on LA 1032. As Harris approached a right hand curve he lost control of his vehicle. The F-250 ran off the roadway to the right and entered a ditch before striking a tree.

Harris, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries from the crash. Driver impairment is unknown at this time; however, excessive speed is considered a factor in the crash. Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from Harris to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
