Council Approves Zoning for Carlton’s Seafood

Carlton's Seafood Market & Deli has been given the go-ahead by Central's City Council.  The Council voted unanimously to allow rezoning from "Rural" to "Light Commercial 1" for the former Sadie's Closet building on the south side of Hooper Road between Joor and Sullivan.  Everyone speaking on the issue agreed that it was a proper request and should be approved.  The location is in an area designated as "City Center" in the Master Land Use Plan.
The controversy over recent City Council rezoning requests revolves around the fact that another rezoning request just a few blocks down Hooper Road was denied last month when Council Members Messina, Washington and LoBue led a 3-2 vote to deny the application.  The denied application for the partially condemned building at the corner of Hooper and Sullivan was also to rezone from "Rural" to "Light Commercial One" and was also in the area designated "City Center".  No explanation was given at Tuesday's meeting as to why the two requests were treated differently.
