Wildcats are Bi-District Champs

Photo by Michael Spangler – Mrs. Venable, wife of Milam Venable, was presented with the game ball last Friday.  Milam passed away at Wildcat Stadium two weeks ago before the final regular season game.  The field art was also marked with an “MV” in Milam Venable’s memory.
    No. 4 seed Central Wildcats (10-1) defeated No. 29 seed Ponchatoula Green Wave (5-5) Friday night in Wildcat Stadium by the score of 52-28.  Central was led by senior quarterback Brett Courville who had rushing touchdowns of 67 and 54 yards.  Courville was 10-15 passing for 168 yards.  Running back Lamonte Juneau rushed for 99 yards on 13 carries, one touchdown. Gary Triplett rushed for 80 yards, had 70 yards receiving, 151 yards in kick returns.  Triplett accounted for three scores on the night including an 88 yard kick return.
    Ponchatoula kept the game close taking the lead with four minutes left in the first quarter when sophomore quarterback Christian Campbell scored on a 7 yard run.  Central answered 17 seconds later when Courville ran it in from 67 yards out.  Ponchatoula scored again as time ran out in the first quarter on a 40 yard interception return by senior defensive back Chris Cross.  The rest of the game belonged to Central as they scored 38 points in the second quarter and never looked back.
