Sheila McCant Joins America’s Wetland Foundation as Communications and PR Director

    Sheila McCant, former Public Information Officer for the Louisiana State House of Representatives, has joined Marmillion + Company, as communications director and public affairs director for the America’s WETLAND Foundation.

    “We are very fortunate to have someone of Sheila McCant’s experience and talent as we continue working to build public support for restoring the Gulf Coast,” said R. King Milling, chair of America’s WETLAND Foundation. “She will be invaluable as we launch our ‘The Big River Works’ outreach up the Mississippi River to Memphis, St. Louis, Minneapolis and Chicago this fall.”

    McCant spent 36 years working for the Louisiana House of Representatives.  In 1993, she was charged with establishing a non-partisan Public Information Office to serve all members and the institutions.  As Public Information Officer, she directed media relations, public outreach and civic education for the 105 members of the Louisiana House.

    Under her guidance, the office won more than 30 awards and honors for writing, video production, photography, speech writing, public outreach initiatives and web site publications from the Southern Public Relations Federation, the Louisiana Press Women’s Association and the National Federation of Press Women.  She received a National Federation of Press Women’s award for her photography for The Beauty of Early Detection Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign.

    In 1997, McCant helped create the Legislative Information and Communications Staff Section of the National Conference of State Legislatures.  In 2002, McCant received the NSCL Legislative Staff Achievement Award.

    McCant is secretary of the Louisiana Association of Press Women, treasurer for the Baton Rouge chapter of the League of Women Voters and is a member of the boards of the Baton Rouge Press Club and the Louisiana Bicentennial Commission.

    McCant is based in Marmillion + Company’s Baton Rouge office.
