Central cruised to a 31-0 lead two minutes into the third quarter. Senior quarterback Brett Courville completed a 15 yard pass to senior Jeremy Anderson for the first score of the game. Courville then found senior Devon Gales for a 49 yard touchdown. Junior Greg Noel added a 26 yard field goal at the 5:02 mark of the second quarter and Courville ran for a score from 14 yards out to finish the half. Courville was 15 for 22 for 268 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception.
Central’s defense held Walker on six first half possessions forcing four punts and intercepting Walker’s quarterback Lockhart twice, one by junior Cole Edgens, the other by senior Paul Broussard. Junior defensive end Dalton Holdman had six tackles on the night including a team high 3.5 for losses.
The third quarter got interesting pretty quickly as Walker moved the ball 80 yards in two plays scoring on a Lockhart to Carlton Perkins 68 yard pass. Central fumbled on their next possession leading to another score by Walker on a 81 yard run by Perkins. On the next possession Central controlled the line of scrimmage and mounted a 77 yard drive ending with a 25 yard Noel field goal. Walker answered with a 72 yard Lockhart to Brown completion for a touchdown. Central scored on their next drive on a 41 yard pass from Courville to sophomore James Schopp to make the score 40-24 at the end of the third. Coach Sid Edwards said, “Let’s just say we had great concern when they made it a 10-point game. With a kid like Perkins on the other side, you’re just one blink away from being behind and then you’re in a war.”
Central finished the game with two more scores and held Walker scoreless in the fourth to take home the victory 54-24.
