CAPA Corner: Words of Encouragement from the Central Area Pastor’s Association

By  |

My wife and I recently attended a conference in Colorado. The city we were in was right up against the eastern face of the Rocky Mountains. The mountains made it much easier to navigate around the city without losing our bearings. If the mountains were on our left, we were headed north. If they were on our right, we were headed south. Simple, but dependable.
My love of the mountains always brings me to the mountain imagery used in the Bible to show us something true about God. Psalm 36:6 is a great example.
“Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep. O LORD, you preserve both man and beast. (NIV)
Righteousness is being in a relationship in which we are in right standing with the other person. We can be righteous to one another by being respectful, kind, loving and not acting or saying anything that harms the other.
But being righteous with God is much more. Being righteous with Him begins with trusting that the work of Jesus Christ in His life, death, and resurrection counts for one’s self. It means we accept His loving but absolute authority over and in our lives. It means we have been turned from a pursuit of our own ambitions to pursue what pleases Him.
Are you navigating your life by being righteous with God?
