In June of 2011, Lailyn Kleinpeter reached out to the Central Community to help others in need. “Lailyn has always had a special place in her heart for other children and children not so fortunate,” her mother said. After learning about Locks of Love, which is a non-profit organization that provides hair pieces to children suffering from medical issues creating hair loss, Lailyn decided to become a donor. In June 2011, Lailyn donated twelve inches of her hair to the Locks of Love organization and encouraged her classmates to do the same.  After seeing the passion and bravery Lailyn had for other children, her grandmother, Betty Jo Zumo, was inspired to also donate her hair to Locks of Love in April 2012.

With Lailyn’s 9th birthday approaching, she had one special request. She wanted to donate her hair to Locks of Love for a second time. Only a year and four months later, Lailyn donated another twelve inches of her hair to the wonderful cause. “As long as God blesses me with thick long hair, I will continue to donate it,” Lailyn said as she held the pony tail in her hands. “Donating it actually benefits three ways,” she continued, “it helps the children who are less fortunate, it makes me feel good because I’ve done something special to help, and my mom doesn’t have to brush and fix all that hair every morning.” Lailyn’s mother, Rebecca Kleinpeter, fully supports her passion in helping others and supporting charities aimed towards children. “Lailyn is a blessing and has such a big heart for those in need,” her mother said. “Aside from regularly supporting charities like St. Jude and the Ronald McDonald House, she is always trying to donate her clothes and her toys to children less fortunate. She is always looking for ways to help and make a positive impression on others.” Whether it’s her beautiful smile or sparkling blue eyes,  there is no doubt this young lady is a great asset to our community.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Tashia Cheveallier, owner and stylist at The Hair Zone. Anyone interested in donating to the Locks of Love organization can contact The Hair Zone at 225-262-7654.
