A comeback victory in the first race of the day set the tone for a top 5 finish for the Central boys swim team.  That victory was by the boys 200 medley of Sean Murphy, Matthew Arnold, Daniel Parker, and Kade McAdams.

In addition to that victory, every swimmer dropped time from the first meet.  Freshman swimmers, Hope Michelli and Lyndee Debetaz cut their 50 freestyle times by 8 seconds and 3 seconds respectively.  Equally impressive, was Kade McAdams’ performance in the 100 freestyle where he dropped 4 seconds.

Coach Mary Hodges designed special workouts for distance swimmers Jessica Hooper and Sean Murphy, and the results were startling.  Jessica swam the 500 freestyle 15 seconds faster than the first meet just two weeks ago.  Sean swam the 500 freestyle 24 seconds faster and at the same time qualified for the state meet.

Meanwhile, two other swimmers contributed significantly by swimming in new events.  Tara Termini recorded a 7th place finish in the 100 butterfly.  Ty Wilkins not only finished 14th in the 100 breastroke, but finished one hundredth of a second below the state qualifying time.

Other top 10 finishers were Kade McAdams in the 100 freestyle (7th), Matthew Arnold in the 500 freestyle (3rd) and 100 backstroke (1st), Sean Murphy in the 500 freestyle (5th), and Daniel Parker in the 100 breastroke (3rd).

As impressive as those performances were, Coach Hodges and Coach Osborne are most proud of the swim team’s performance out of the pool in the classroom.  On the first 6 weeks progress report, the team had a cumulative GPA of 3.021.

As for the meet, the boys 191 points placed them in 5th as just 10 points separated 5th place from 2nd place.  The Wildcats will be back in the pool on Sunday, October 7th and will be working hard in the meantime to make up those 10 points.
