Central Fire Department Assists With Barn Fire

By  |

The Central Fire Department was dispatched as the Rapid Intervention Team (RIC) to assist Cheneyville, Pride and Zachary Fire Departments on a working hay barn fire Monday, September 10, 2012 at 2:13 pm.  Cheneyville firefighters arrived at 22581 Reams Rd. and found approximately 300 rolled bales of hay stacked in a barn on fire. Firefighters from all four fire departments prevented the fire from spreading to other structures on the property and controlled the hay fire while residents used tractors to move the burning bales out of the barn.  Once the large bales were removed from the barn, they were allowed to burn.

Traffic on Reams Rd. was detoured by EBRSO for several hours because a large diameter fire hose supplying water was stretched across the roadway from a nearby fire hydrant. The fire caused an approximately $30,000 loss in hay and approximately $2500.00 worth of damage to the barn.  The last Cheneyville Fire Department unit left the scene at approximately 8:30 pm.
