Since the 1990's, Zoar Baptist Church on Hooper Road has been privileged to have the landscaping talents of some of its plant loving church members. It began and flourished for many years with the hardworking efforts of Harold and Gloria Krumholt. Through their foresight it continued to evolve to the large scale it is today. Since Hurricane Gustave church members Vickie Rabb and Cindy Cowart have taken the reins, and added to the team more recently are Susan Campbell and Jackie Faulkenberry.  They oversee an abundance of nandinas, boxwoods, cleome, periwinkles, palm trees, azalaes, river birch trees, Knock-out roses, coleus, several types of ferns, mahonia, hostas, impatiens, and caladiums, and that's just in the front of the church!  Large amounts of multi-colored periwinkles and yellow cosmos surround the sidewalk forming a cheerful entrance to the children's ministry.  The rear courtyard is a real treat with lots of color popping from the coneflowers, rudbeckia, begonia, penta, mums, Mexican heather, Knock-out roses and lantana, both gold mound and Dallas red.  The “backbone” plants include various grasses, agapanthus, sagos, and lorepetulum.  On the west side stands a lovely grove of small-leafed magnolias along with a tremendous bottlebrush tree.

The Central Bloomers Garden Club beautification committee proudly presents the Jackie Brewer Memorial to Zoar Baptist Church as this months featured landscape. Through the early vision of the Krumholts, the continued support of the pastor and the church, to the present day caregivers, Zoar Baptist Church is helping the City of Central to “grow beautifully”.
