In an unusual game time of 11 AM on a Saturday, Central took on Istrouma in the storm-delayed first game of the season.  The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.  In the first half QB Brett Courville connected with Gary Triplett twice for touchdowns and Justin Vessel and Jaylon Morris added scores on the ground.   Half time score, 27-0.
In the second half Central was able to give playing time to future starters and backups in preparation for the rest of the season.  Central added scores on runs by Matt Edwards and Jaylon Morris’ second score of the day.  Kicker Greg Noel added four extra points on the night.
Head Coach Sid Edwards gave the following analysis of the game:  “We did some really good things at times. Other than the turnovers I felt pretty good about us offensively.”  On the subject of defense Coach Sid added: “At this stage I’m very happy defensively.  We still have a long way to go but since the spring game, every time we go out and compete I see improvement.  We played collectively as a unit and that is how that defense is going to have to play.  They had a good outing.”
Justin Vessel rolled up 74 yards on five carries while Brett Courville was 10 for 20 passing for 196 yards.  Gary Triplett led the receivers with 135 yards on 4 catches.  On defense, Ashton Stokes, Hunter Cazes, Paul Broussard, Daelon Richardson and Sean Parker combined for 14 tackles, 4 assists, three tackles for losses and an interception.  Cole Edgens added two interceptions on the night.
All-purpose offensive starter and backup QB Jake Myer suffered a dislocated left elbow in the second quarter and will likely miss several games.  Starting Defensive End Corey Geurcio is expected to return to action this week, recovering from a shoulder injury.  Also lost recently to ACL injuries are Jaylon Turner and Matt Case, both of whom will probably be out for the season.
