From the Mayor’s Desk:
Tropical Storm/Hurricane Isaac
We have been truly blessed in Central that Isaac spared our City with what would be termed minimal damage by comparison to other areas of the state.
Many thanks are in order. First to our citizens for staying off our roads during peak storm times. This allowed our crews to work to keep our roads clear. Also, many thanks to our citizen volunteers for helping during this time.
Our EOC (Emergency Operations Center) at the Central Fire Station on Sullivan Road was manned 24 hours for 3 days to take care of our citizens. Chief Porche and his staff, along with David Ratcliff and our City Services staff are to be commended for their gallant efforts during this time.
Thanks are in store for our EBR Sheriff’s deputies, State Police and our own reserve police officers for maintaining our public safety during Isaac.
I spent most of my time at our EOC helping coordinate all of the people from our City working to keep our citizens safe. I was out on the streets and helping some with removing trees from roadways and helping in any way that I was able.
We are fortunate that, again by comparison, the number of houses damaged by the storm, trees, limbs, wind, and water was minimal. Thank God there were no known injuries or deaths related to the storm.
The process of debris removal will begin today. That is the process, not the actual removal. That will begin ASAP, but I ask our citizens to be patient and follow all instructions for debris removal. David Barrow, my CAO, will be posting instructions for this process on our web page, face book page and in the local papers.
Again, many thanks to everyone for your help, patience and cooperation. Once again, the citizens of Central have displayed their caring and thoughtfulness – a City that truly cares.
Mayor Mac Watts
