The Central Wildcats are headed for a wild season. Coach Sid Edwards said the ‘Cats biggest challenge is their very tough schedule, one of the toughest in the state. St. Thomas More will “probably be ranked #1 going into our game,” shared Coach Sid. “Woodlawn is a great team, Catholic will be fielding their best team in 5 years, St. Amant (who defeated us last year) has a huge number of returning players. Denham Springs has 2 players committed to SEC Schools already, and Scotlandville looks like a college team. We’ll have to be at the top of our game every week.”
Lest their fans get worried, Coach Sid, after watching the Jamboree last Friday, said, “We’re pleased with some things, not so happy with others. It was a typical ‘Dress Rehearsal’. Our job this week is to correct those things that need correcting so we’re ready for this Friday. We’re still a mystery – what our team will be like, what we can hang our hat on. We’re returning with a lot of key players in skill positions on offense. Our quarterbacks and running backs have been in the fire. They know what to expect. We’re counting on them. We’re young in some spots, but veterans in others.”
Coach Sid is focusing a lot of attention on special teams. “We believe our kicking game will be crucial, especially against some of our opponents. Special teams are an area that people often overlook. If we can get really good at that it could give us an advantage to put us over in a couple of the games.” Also getting a lot of attention is the Defense. “They’re undersized, but quick! We’re going to have to do some things to compete, but our players are aggressive, they play hard.”
Coach Sid shared this final thought about Central football, “Wildcat Stadium is a special place to play. Come out and support our boys win, lose or draw. Come out and be part of it all.” Have a great season, Wildcats!
