Kyle and Mindy Hebert, residents of Denham Springs, La, are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Lawson Reed Hebert. Kyle and his family are long standing residents of the Central community. He is a graduate of Redemptorist High School and now currently serving as an East Baton Rouge Parish Fire Fighter. Mindy and her family are from Houma, Louisiana. Mindy is an employee of the State of Louisiana.
Lawson is the first child born to Kyle and Mindy. He was born on June 6, 2012 at 7:17 p.m. weighing 6 lbs. 14 oz. and 20 inches long. Upon birth Lawson was admitted to the NICU at Woman's Hospital where he has spent the last six weeks with his parents by his side. Lawson has been diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Zellweger Spectrum Syndrome. There is no cure or treatment for this disorder. The life expectancy for a child with this disorder is less than one year. His symptoms include hypotonia (low muscle tone), elevated liver enzymes, renal cysts, seizures, and difficulty sucking and swallowing. He was also diagnosed with enlarged brain ventricles. He is currently on oxygen due to frequent apnea spells. He receives nutrition through a feeding tube due to his inability to bottle feed. He has been receiving physical/occupational therapy.
Kyle and Mindy are heartbroken to receive such devastating news about the fate of their first born child. They have shown a great deal of courage and strength that can only come from their faith in God. Kyle and Mindy along with family and friends are believing in a complete miracle for Lawson. Many people have asked how to show their support to The Hebert's during these difficult times. The following fundraisers have been set up to assist with care and medical expenses they are facing.
