CAPA Corner: Words of Encouragement from the Central Area Pastor’s Association

"Freedom." I love that line from the movie "Braveheart" as the hero makes it clear he is willing to sacrifice all for the pursuit of this gift – Freedom! Sacrifice – now  there's an interesting word. It's a concept that those of us born in the 'Land of Plenty' have a difficult time wrapping our minds around. At least to the degree that our Lord Jesus has called us to.

The gospel writers quoted Jesus as saying, "I've come to set the captives free."  Do you feel imprisoned? This is the crux of the matter. So many in our land flowing with milk and honey don't see the need to be set free. Jesus is more of the ultimate retirement plan. The veil is firmly fixed. Our adversary is wise. If we're 'all good' then theres no need for all this talk of sacrificing in order to obtain freedom – let's just sing another praise song and everything will be alright.

The problem is that Jesus is also quoted as saying, "If anyone will come after me he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." Sounds alot like sacrifice, doesn't it?  Is it possible that we have been so richly blessed in order to reach the rest? Maybe our freedom and the abundance it has fostered is a 'God-plan' to help set captives free. Just a thought!
