It is fitting that on the day after Memorial Day, Central Veterans gathered this week for the groundbreaking of Central's Veterans Memorial Park near the corner of Sullivan and Hooper Roads.  The park has been made possible by the vision and work of the Central Veterans Helping Veterans organization and the Central Community School System's willingness to make the property available for the park.  The park will be located in the vacant property next to the Masonic Lodge across Sullivan Road from the school property where the "Central School" was begun over 100 years ago and has since been Central High School and then Central Middle School.

The triangular shaped property was once home to the "Teacherage", a house where visiting teachers would stay while serving the students of the Central community.  At Wednesday's meeting a "Cooperative Endeavor Agreement between the Central Community School System and Central Veterans Helping Veterans for the use of the surplus school system property for your group to construct a memorial and provide educational opportunities regarding foreign wars to Central residents." was unanimously approved.  The park is planned eventually to include monuments to all American Veterans as well as green space, paths and a gazebo.

Above is a mock-up of the Veterans Memorial Plaza that will be coming to the lot on Sullivan Road next to the Masonic Lodge.  Thank you to the Central Veterans Helping Veterans and the Central Community School System for making this possible.
